Jewellery Care

Just like you, jewellery needs tender loving care. I want you to enjoy every piece of OriginSeventyOne jewellery, so I've created a 'top tips' list to help you to keep your jewellery as lovely as the first day you purchased.

  • Everyday wear will inevitably cause your piece to tarnish and gold plate and antique bronze will eventually fade, due to only being surface finishes, how quickly this happens will depend on how it is looked after, skin type & frequency of wear. Treat it as a precious piece and it will last. To help maintain the plating, store in an airtight container or a zip lock bag or jewellery box, don't wear perfume or creams in the same area that you wear your jewellery and never spray perfume once your jewellery is on!
  • Remove jewellery before exercise, be it swimming, gym, gardening, cleaning or even sleeping as this will ensure that our delicate jewellery is not accidentally damaged or tarnished due to water or chemicals. Perspiration can also contribute to the tarnishing of your jewellery.
  • Remove jewellery before removing clothing!
  • Store jewellery separately, so that they don't tangle or rub and scratch against each other. Do not store next to heating vents, windowsills or in the bathroom.  Damp and hot conditions with cause the jewellery to tarnish badly.
  • Cleaning tarnish from gold plated chain (do not let resin pendent charms/gems come into contact with water) To clean gold or silver plated jewellery, use lukewarm water and mild dish soap. Do not use a heavy-duty soap, as this will contain chemicals that can damage the jewellery. You can leave your jewellery in the water and soap mixture for around 10 minutes then remove from the water and rinse it off in warm water to get all the soap completely removed and then let it dry completely before wearing it or storing it away.
